Natural food (porridge with meat and vegetables) should be given based on the weight of the dog. Exemplary guidelines for food weight are 60-70 g per 1 kg of the dog’s weight or in an amount of 4-5% by weight. For example, if your dog weighs 20 kg, you give it on the day of 1-1.2 kg of cereals. It should be noted that the recommendations are very approximate. Other dogs of the same weight may need the different amount of food. That depends on the temperament of the dog, its age and lifestyle.
How many times a day do you need to feed the dog?
The general rule is:
Puppy 2 months – 6 times a day,
2-4 months – 5 times a day,
4-5 months – 4 times a day,
5-6 months – 4-3 times a day.
From 6 months old puppy is gradually transferred to the mode of feeding adult dogs (2 times a day). Inactive dogs without experiencing physical stress are allowed to feed 1 time every day at the same time. But we still recommend feed these animals as well as 2 times a day, dividing the daily dose into 2 parts.
What to do with the food that was left in the bowl after a feeding?
When the dog ate enough food, it moves away from its bowl. If it remains some food in the bowl, this means that you have overdone size portions. You have to clean the bowl from the rest of food, and the next time you should reduce the dose by about the amount that remains.
Where is the better place to put a bowl of food?
For large breeds, it is desirable to put a bowl on the stand. This is especially important for puppies and adolescents. The bowl should be at chest level to the dog eating it only lowered the muzzle. If large growing dogs will eat regularly from the bowl which is leaning over, standing on the floor, it is possible to get some deviations from the correct formation of the exterior (roach back, weak pastern front paws). It is better to set bowls for food and water on a tripod – it will adjust the height of the bowls with the growth of the dog.
Water should always be in the dog’s bowl!
Manufacture of prepared feeds on every package of its products write about the need for constant access for the dog to a bowl with water. The same information applies to the kind of dogs who eats natural food. Access to clean; fresh drinking water should always be in the dog’s bowl!
